The Commodities Have Become Luxuries

The Commodities Have Become Luxuries, 3D
The Commodities Have Become Luxuries Honorable Mention
The Luxuries Have Become Commodities speaks on the inescapable panic and anxiety created by rising food prices, and overall cost of living. A red earthenware pedestal base supports the stoneware hands that rest upon it. The base is inscribed with two lines from the poem I wrote that accompanies this piece. We become easy to distract when starving and scared. The act of the four tipping to one is that of communal sacrifice, an act of brotherly love through rebelling against the system. We are stronger as communities, and sharing the burden of the human experience is beautifully unifying. The commodities have become luxuries, the egg the hand desperately reaches for is now gold; precious and invaluable.

They will starve our stomachs
So our minds become a slurry
Less likely to question why
In between deprived cries
They are starving our stomachs
Distracting us with falsities
Poisoning the water
And revoking piece of mind
Come and rest
Here amongst the others
They will carry the burden with you
